Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (TPOAb)Updated 3 months ago

What is the thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb)?
TPOAb are antibodies produced when the immune system mistakenly targets thyroid peroxidase (TPO), an enzyme crucial for thyroid hormone production. Their presence may indicate thyroid dysfunction.

Why is TPOAb important?
TPOAb levels help assess thyroid health, particularly for autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease. These conditions can cause symptoms like weight changes, fatigue, irregular periods, and mood issues. TPOAb is part of SiPhox Health’s Thyroid+ panel.

Understanding TPOAb levels:

  • Normal: < 9.0 IU/mL
  • Optimal: < 4 IU/mL
  • High: > 9 IU/mL

Elevated TPOAb may suggest autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease. Consult your physician if levels are high.

Maintaining optimal TPOAb levels:

  • Diet: Increase folate (B9) and carnitine intake to help lower TPOAb.

DISCLAIMER:

If you are concerned about your TPOAb levels always consult your physician.
