Luteinizing hormone (LH)Updated 3 months ago

What is luteinizing hormone (LH)?
LH is a key hormone for reproductive health. It triggers ovulation in females and testosterone production in males. In women, LH helps regulate the menstrual cycle and fertility, while in men, it stimulates sperm production.

Why is LH important?
Included in SiPhox's Hormone+ tests, LH can indicate pituitary gland disorders. Abnormal levels may signal issues like infertility, low libido, or testicular/ovarian disorders.

LH levels:

  • Male: 2 – 9 mIU/mL
  • Female:
    • Follicular phase: 1.68 – 15 mIU/mL
    • Midcycle peak: 21.9 – 56.6 mIU/mL
    • Luteal phase: 0.61 – 16.3 mIU/mL
    • Postmenopausal: 14.2 – 52.3 mIU/mL

Maintaining optimal LH levels:

  • Diet: A vegetarian diet and more fiber can lower LH.
  • Lifestyle: Yoga, quitting smoking, and weight loss can help regulate elevated LH.
  • Supplements: Vitamin E may help reduce high LH.

Disclaimer:

If you are concerned about your LH levels always consult your physician.
