hs-CRPUpdated 3 months ago

What is hs-CRP?

High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is an inflammatory protein produced by the liver in response to infection or inflammation. It helps measure general inflammation and assess heart disease and stroke risk. Lower hs-CRP is better.

Why is hs-CRP important?

The hs-CRP test can detect small levels of inflammation, indicating potential cardiovascular or autoimmune issues.

hs-CRP levels and risk interpretation:

  • Healthy: < 1.0 mg/L
  • Slightly high: 1-1.5 mg/L
  • Moderate risk: 1.0 to 10 mg/L
  • High risk: > 10 mg/L
  • Critical: > 50 mg/L

Cardiometabolic Program-specific ranges:

  • Optimal: ≤ 0.75 mg/L
  • Good: 0.76-1.4 mg/L
  • Fair: 1.5-1.99 mg/L
  • Pay attention: ≥ 2 mg/L

Elevated levels can be caused by obesity, pregnancy, illness, or autoimmune disease.

How to maintain optimal hs-CRP levels:

  • Diet: Anti-inflammatory foods, Mediterranean or DASH diet.
  • Lifestyle: Exercise, quit smoking, improve oral hygiene, sauna use, vacations.
  • Supplements: Curcumin, magnesium, omega-3, vitamin D, zinc, vitamin A.

DISCLAIMER:

If you are worried about your hs-CRP levels always consult your physician!
