ApoA1Updated 3 months ago

What is ApoA1?

ApoA1 (apolipoprotein A)  is a key protein in HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein), known as "good" cholesterol, which helps prevent artery plaque buildup. It's a critical biomarker for assessing cardiovascular disease risk, with ApoA1 being the most abundant protein linked to HDL-C.

Why is ApoA1 Important?

ApoA1 and HDL cholesterol generally reduce cardiovascular risk. Higher ApoA1 levels often indicate better heart health, making it a valuable predictor in health assessments.

Understanding ApoA1 Results

  • Males: Optimal: ≥ 115 mg/dL, At risk: < 115 mg/dL
  • Females: Optimal: ≥ 125 mg/dL, At risk: < 125 mg/dL

Low ApoA1 can signal serious health issues, while high levels may be linked to genetic factors or weight loss.

Maintaining Optimal ApoA1 Levels

  • Diet: Limit sugar, and increase fermented dairy.
  • Lifestyle: Avoid smoking, exercise regularly, and manage weight.

DISCLAIMER:

Always consult a physician if you are concerned about your ApoA1 levels!
